Ethics Statement
The Flavor Chase is an affiliate of Clutch City Farms and does have a coupon code with them (flavorchase15). That being said, what I’ve gathered from my conversations with the owners/cultivators is that they would rather hear true honest thoughts as opposed to glowing reviews only. They want to further their cultivation practices and look to the consumer feedback to let them know where they stand in the market. I cannot comment on the genetics or breeder of this strain as Clutch doesn’t release those details publicly. Finally, CCF was not allowed to preview this review prior to its release nor have they had any influence over the contents. Let’s get into the review.
Appearance

Sumo Citrus is a unique looking flower in the Clutch lineup. It checks the boxes for density, trichome coverage, cure and trim work. It’s a nice lighter green color with vivid orange pistils on display. It’s a sticky flower. I broke it down with my Flower Mill Mini. There was no extra color on the broken down flower, but the texture is a nice crumble with trichomes mostly in tact.
Nose

The nose on this is pleasant, but also a little muted in comparison to some other flowers in Clutch’s menu. It reminds me of a T1 with a bitter orange peel exterior, but as you grind it down the nose takes on more a sweeter quality similar to some Orange Glaze phenos I’ve tried in the past (This isn’t a guess as to what the strain is, just an observation).
The Smoking Experience (Taste and Effect)

I rolled approximately 1 – 1.5 grams in a RAW Black Organic hemp paper. As mentioned earlier, the cure is on point. The flower sticks together and takes shape with ease. Once rolled up, the dry hit is on the lighter side, and truly does remind me of T1.
Lighting my joint with a hemp wick, I was treated to excellent smoothness, but unfortunately, there isn’t as much of a flavor profile as I would’ve liked. It’s mostly neutral in taste, but there’s very slight traces of that bitter orange peel that sticks around after nostril exhales. On the downside, it’s not as flavorful as their side piece series or the recently launched Cookie Butter. On the plus side, there’s no noticeable harshness.
Effects wise, this is very much a Type III strain. There’s that bit of calmness that bit of calming effect that CBD strains provide with a noticeable body buzz. It isn’t an intense pressure on any part of the body in particular, it’s more like a gentle massage. Personally, I could stand for something a little stronger. I’ve felt their SP series and Apple Smacks to have a little more kick to them. If you’re someone of lower tolerance, you may enjoy this one. Just don’t expect to catch as strong of a buzz as with some other flowers.
Final Thoughts and Shelf Placement

Clutch appears to be regularly updating their strain selection. With the recent drops of Cookie Butter, Pineapple Whip, Sumo Citrus, High Chew, Tropicana Cream and Yuzu, their lineup feels fully fleshed out. As with every company, sometimes there’s hits or misses. Sumo Citrus for me is just OK. It’s got the looks of some quality flower, it smokes like some quality flower. However, it just doesn’t have the nose that screams “TOP SHELF” when I open the pack or the flavor that screams that when smoked. It’s enjoyable, but in my opinion, does have a good amount of competition in the evolving hemp market.
