Ethics Statement
Wave Rider Nursery is a California cannabis cultivation facility in Northern California that produces greenhouse grown flower. The Flavor Chase received this strain as a gift to try out from an acquaintance in the cannabis industry. After hearing the enthusiasm for CBD flower, they wanted to see how this flower would grade. TFC is unaffiliated with Wave Rider Nursery and they were not allowed to preview this review, nor did they have any influence on its contents prior to release. The quality of any product that comes through The Flavor Chase has to speak for itself. So I hope WRN is ready. Let’s start the review.
Appearance

Bay Breeze is a nice looking greenhouse grown flower. Buds are dense and solid with a pretty light green color, orange pistils and good trichome coverage. The trim job is also on point, tight to the bud with minor sugar leaf present. I would put this on par with a lot of outdoor and greenhouse flower that I’ve tried before, but not the best of it. It has more of a standard cannabis look to it than that of an exotic premium flower. It reminds of flowers that you might get from Holy City Farms based in South Carolina.
Nose

The nose on this flower is reminiscent of earlier Type III strains: a dominantly earthy profile with a hint of sweet orange peel on it. To be honest, you could’ve told me it was a pheno of Orange Glaze and I wouldn’t question it. Though I’ve had stinkier Orange Glaze phenos in the past, many of them carry a scent similar to this one. Bay Breeze is a better smelling Type II strain than many of the mixed ratio and CBDA dominant strains I’ve tried that were grown in California. However, it has a harder time competing with some of the newer Type II and III genetics currently available in the marketplace, which have much louder aromas. Once ground down, a more sweetness presents itself to match up with the earthy tones.
The Smoking Experience (Taste and Effect)

I rolled up approximately 1.25 – 2 grams in a RAW Black hemp paper. I used a Flower Mill Mini to grind up the flower and was left with a fine grain consistency. The stickiness of the flower took clumped together and took shape with ease. However, I do think that this is a flower that could also be ground up by hand without as much of a yield sacrifice to your fingers. The dry hit is familiar within the CBD world. Earthy with some sweetness. It’s a good taste, it’s just more reminiscent of the strains of 2019 than the current 2023 market.
Lighting the joint with a hemp wick provided a smooth and pleasant initial hit. The ash is a mixture of light and dark grays. You can seen the resin apparent inside the paper, but it takes a while before the ring really starts to present itself. Slow inhales are nice and smooth, nostril exhales are as well. That being said, this flower does lack in flavor in comparison to more recent Type II and III genetics available in the market. It’s mostly neutral, with a bit of a sweet earthy aftertaste. It’s okay, but competing with more of a budget flower market than the premium.
This is a Sativa dominant hybrid flower. Effects present itself pretty early into the j. At about 1/3 of the way in a noticeable cerebral head change kicked in. Mentally, it’s an increased alertness. Physically, it’s a more intense headband feeling massaging around my head and really noticeable in the forehead. At about 1/2 way in my core finally relaxes from rucking 40lbs. My neck, shoulders and back feel much looser. Though this does energize the mind, the physical relaxation make this one I would recommend for later in the afternoon/earlier in the evening when you might be finished exercising, currently working on something creative or just collecting your thoughts. It gives a good balance of mental to physical feelings, but that cerebral change is more potent.
Final Thoughts and Shelf Placement

Bay Breeze CBD is a pretty good mixed ratio flower. It has a couple of things going for it: looks and effects. It’s a pretty flower that’s noticeably potent, invigorating the mind while relaxing the body. A good duality. Those looking for something effective wont be disappointed. However, those looking for something of a stronger flavor profile will be. It’s a smooth flower and that will always get you a passing grade, but it just doesn’t have as bold of a profile as some of the newer releases in the Type II and III market. Where I would personally use this flower is as filler with a tastier CBDa dominant to mix with Bay Breeze’s THCa for a more balanced feeling. All in all, it’s an enjoyable smoke. Just not one that’s ready to compete for the crown.
