Ethics Statement

The Flavor Chase paid for this order. Though we are in contact with Five Leaf Wellness and have received sample product for review from them in the past, FLW was not contacted prior to the writing of or release of this review. That being said, Five Leaf’s cultivation team is aware that at The Flavor Chase, the quality of a product must always speak for itself. And they’re here to compete. So, let’s get into the review. Additional note: I did glass cure this flower for 48 hours prior to use.

Appearance

This release of K2 Kush is from seed, there are some differences between buds, but the difference is extremely minimal. This is the 3rd time that I’ve tried this strain. Every time that I’ve seen it, I thought it was a pretty flower, but this is the prettiest version that I’ve witnessed so far. This is a beautiful light green with heavy trichome coverage. Sprinkled throughout are bits of dark green and minimal amounts of purple sugar leaf, tightly trimmed. There is some slight moisture, but buds snap with ease and the crystals on the inside make the appearance that much more beautiful. The buds in my order were dime – quarter sized. I do wish that I could’ve seen what some of the larger colas looked like. Should’ve ordered a 1/4 instead of an 1/8th.

Nose

Hoku describes this flower as having a gas/kush dominant terpene profile. After letting the flower sit sealed in a glass jar for 48 hours, the nose has livened up more. Opening up the jar I was treated to an intense kush aroma. Like strong coffee with diesel gas elements and some sweetness. It actually reminds me of a Bubba Kush that I tried years ago that was grown by the now defunct Wellness Tree Hemp Project (who is currently the head of Five Leaf’s cultivation team). This one is pretty loud in the Type III world and I think stands just behind FLW’s OZ Kush pheno series. I would love to see this nose crossed to a few different strains in FLW’s lineup (OZK2 anybody? Legendary Platinum K2? Gorilla K2? There’s money there.)

The Smoking Experience (Taste and Effect)

I rolled approximately 1 – 1.5 grams in a RAW Black hemp paper. There is a slight bit of extra moisture feeling to the buds, but as mentioned earlier, they still snap with ease. Grinding the buds in the Flower Mill Mini was easy, and the result was a consistent fluffy material that had trichomes still in tact. Around this level of moisture or just slightly less is perfect. The flower is sticky, which helps make the rolling experience a simple one. It takes shape and holds without much effort. Once rolled up, I was treated to a tasty kush flavored dry hit.

I lit the joint with a hemp wick. The initial hit was pleasantly smooth. Very early on I notice that the ash is light gray and there’s a minor resin ring forming near the cherry of the joint. While the initial hit didn’t have a major dominant flavor note, the hits following have quite a sharp coffee/kush taste. Soft slow inhales and nostril exhales have noticeable flavor and are incredibly smooth. I really enjoy the taste and would place it parallel with FLW’s OZK #38 in terms of loudness.

At about 1/3 of the way through the joint, effects began to present themselves. The first thing I noticed was a potent head change. It was pretty intense for a Type III, reminding me of the strength of Stoney Branch’s Godfather OG. Not too intense to the point of feeling like Type I or II, but could definitely be felt. At about 1/3 – 1/2 of the joint left, the effects kicked in even stronger. What started as a head change began creeping into the body and I felt very relaxed. It was without a doubt a hybrid feeling, but I would say that it leans Indica dominant. The potent body relaxation makes this strain one that I recommend for using after exercising or before bed for sleep.

Final Thoughts and Shelf Placement

I will continue to say that it’s an excellent time to consider trying Type III cannabis flowers. The explosion in genetics over the years are starting to usher in CBD’s golden era and you don’t want to miss out. That being said, Five Leaf Wellness has been producing some excellent indoor flower as of late and that wont go unnoticed. This K2 Kush ranks high among the FLW inventory and is one I confidently recommend. It has all of the makings of good cannabis. The looks are there in these small – medium sized nugs, so I’m sure the top colas were even better. If you love kush, this flower has plenty of it in the nose department. After 48 hours curing, the nose stands nearly toe-to-toe with the OZK Platinum Cut that I also ordered (OZKPC has a little bit more complexities happening with a louder aroma). Effects also hit on this one. Whether you’re of a lower or more experienced tolerance, I think you’ll enjoy the direction that this takes you. If you’re of a lower tolerance, see how 1/3 – 1/2 gram feels before going further. If you have a higher tolerance, expect an enjoyable physical relaxation.

I want to see this variety crossed to a gang of different strains, like mentioned earlier. This one should be a hit and The Flavor Chase happily recommends this one.
